July 21 2012: Karen Tyrrell is the Australian author of “Me and Her: A Memoir of Madness” (2012). Parents of one of her students repeatedly harassed her to breaking point. Karen developed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and severe Bipolar Disorder. She’s now recovered and reclaimed her life, becoming a pro-active mental health advocate, writer and speaker. Karen delivered her Life Writing program to mental health patients at a public hospital, offering hope. She guest blogs on mental health websites across the globe. John McNamamy April 2012: John McManamy is the award-winning author of “Living Well with Depression and Bipolar Disorder: What Your Doctor Doesn’t Tell You That You Need to Know” (HarperCollins, 2006), and editor and publisher of “McMan’s Depression and Bipolar Web.” He also contributes as an expert patient on “HealthCentral” and has his own blog, “Knowledge is Necessity.”

John has just self-published a new book on the funny side of mental illness and life in general, “Raccoons Respect My Piss But Watch Out For Skunks: My Funny Life on a Planet Not of My Choosing That I Now – Sort of, Maybe, Well Okay – Call Home.”

John was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1999 at age 49 following a suicidal depression and a lifetime of denial. Soon after, John put his experience as a financial journalist to work in researching and writing about his illness. He is currently serving on the board of NAMI San Diego. John moved to the San Diego area five years ago from the east coast

February 24, 2012: Natalie Jeanne Champagne is the author of The Third Sunrise . At the age of twenty-six, after many years struggling with a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder at the age of twelve, addictions and disordered eating, she walked the road less traveled and somehow found her way home. Natalie regularly contributes to mental health and addictions publications and is an advocate for mental health. She currently lives in British Columbia, Canada. The Third Sunrise is her first book.

October 27, 2011: Maggie Reese wrote a book about her life dealing with the manic part of bipolar disorder. She started out a success as a runner but then it all fell apart. However, she eventually beat it and now is married. She travels around California with speaking engagements trying to get her message about the stigma of mental illness.
